Knowing how to leave your seat helps their disposition

The lone guy in the house knows he’s in trouble.

We’d been out running around and some workmen had been in the house. Our oldest daughter had to go to the bathroom and so did my wife. Well, they go into my daughter’s bathroom (the hall bath) and she just sort of stands there and stares at the toilet.

The seat was up.

She hesitantly starts to put the seat down and looks to Mommy for confirmation. And she says, “Mommy,” with a look of confusion on her face, “this part was up.”

My wife realizes that this is a foreign concept to her — she’s grown up in a world so far where the seat is always down. My wife was flooded with a feeling of well-being and satisfaction because, in her words, it is her mission in life to get people to put the seat down in what she deems is its rightful place. “My work here is done.”

I have been assimilated.
