Abby cried the other night. Just out of the blue. She told Susan that in the movie at school, people came and took children away from their families, and sometimes the parents got taken away, too, and had to go and sweep floors.
Susan asked if some of these people were called Nazis. Abby said no.
It took a little while for Susan to get it out of her, but the movie was about slavery, specifically the underground railroad. I asked Abby’s teacher about the movie. It was a Reading Rainbow title called “Follow the Drinking Gourd”. Susan was familiar with it. I wasn’t. The link is took the boon on Amazon. I thought the editorial review was quite interesting.
