I’m in the doghouse right now. In trying to decide an uncertain future, my wife and I are discussing the possibilities. I keep going back and forth on certain career goals — what I’ve said in the past and what is staring me in the face now — and seeking feedback from her.
Talk turns toward my pursuit of an MBA. Now, I’ve said from the beginning the batchelor’s was for us, but the MBA was for me. What will I do with an MBA? I don’t know, but I want the education. I’ve wanted a master’s since I went back to school at my advanced age and staring at 40 face to face.
So, is the educational aspects of the MBA enough or does it need to lead to something?
Well…
If I wanted it to lead to an $80K-a-year job right off the bat, Elon wouldn’t have been my first choice. And I probably wouldn’t have gone the part-time route, either.
Benefits of an MBA (in my decision to pursue it) are it:
- Provides career marketability
- Demonstrates goal orientation and achievement
- Provides networking opportunities
There are more, but I think these are pretty good. The question tonight, though, is whether there is a possibility I won’t put it to good use.
My thinking? Education is always of use.
What do y’all say? Is it worth it?
