One is the loneliest number

Apple still ships its computers with one-button mice which is fine. I can use it; I still do with my iMac. But I’ve graduated to two buttons and a scroll wheel. The one I use at work has four buttons and a scroll wheel. We asked for them for some of the “power” users.

Now, I’m feeling woefully inadequate at home ’cause I don’t have a four-button, five-button or N-button mouse. But I seem to be ahead of the curve for average users who don’t know what right-clicking means.

Which is one reason why Apple still ships with one button. For a fairly good explanation of the other reasons, check out this article at Gear Live. Makes sense to me.

I’m most intrigued by the comment:

“Giving the average person a right-buttoned mouse is like giving a bald man a comb.”

So true.

You know, I was perfectly happy with my one button mouse until it died. So I went looking for a lazer mouse. The Kensington mouse I found has been great (it’s got brake lights and turn signals even!) and after about two years I learned a few tricks with the right clicker, but then I find out I can do any of those things in the Apple tool bar so why have a two clicker? But, I do like me some scroll wheel sometimes.
