It’s the waiting that’s the killer

Ah, it’s the little things that make you happy. When I clicked the button to place the order for a new 20 Gig iPod tonight, I got that rush of excitement that I’m sure my kids get when I say, “Yes, you can have a treat tonight.”

And it was a twofer. I ordered my wife an iPod Shuffle. Hey, it’s our Valentine’s Day presents, so I even OK’d the corny (her words, not mine) engraving. Actually, I think it’s kind of cute: “Herb: The apple of my eye. Love always, Susan.”

Excuse me while I wipe that tear away and blow my nose.

Ok. Pushing the button was the easy part. The hard part is looking at the bill, which by the way, if you haven’t ordered anything from the Apple Store (Thank God it’s the education store), you get almost immediate notification. And almost immediate heart failure.

Now comes the waiting. I wish we had to wait for the bill, too. Like next year. Maybe Apple should take a page out of the furniture dealers’ sales book: No money down and no interest until 2015! Only then, you’ve got to cough up a lung, a kidney and if you hesitate, your heart.
