The light just went on

Freedom! Just out of sheer stubbornness, I started playing around with some settings tonight. What I figured out is if I make relative paths for graphics and my css template, I might be able to see my blog both inside and outside the firewall.

So I used relative paths (no http:// but just /filename or /folder) for a couple of photos first and checked on both sides of the firewall.

Lookin’ good.

Then I took out all references to my site URL in my option settings and removed any php references to the site URL in the template.

Bingo!

A fully functional blog on both sides of the firewall. I get at it from a different URL behind, but it works the same as on the other side of the fence. I am missing a couple photos in the archive, but I’ll go back and work on them later.

Too bad my wife’s asleep or I’d make her kiss me. She’s been really disappointed that she couldn’t read it at home, which is when she has five minutes to read anything besides reporters’ stories, and then smack me upside the head when she thinks I’m saying bad stuff about her.

I just shot her off an e-mail with the address.

Ah, another day, another tech issue conquered.
