Not fair

I’m not going to name names, but one of my colleagues has had a really tough time of late.

My colleague, you see, was robbed about two months ago. Many, many personal possessions and a laptop (hey, I’m a computer guy) gone. No renter’s insurance, so the loss was substantial, but not as substantial as the violation of having your stuff riffled through by someone you’ve never met and sold off somewhere. The police, if I’m remembering my facts right, arrested someone they suspected of doing the deed.

My colleague began the tedious chore of replacing the items that were stolen, including buying a brand new laptop.

Fast forward to this week.

After returning from a trip, my colleague returns to find — the house was broken into again! The replacement items gone. The new laptop gone. The pain and sorrow of having been violated again returned. Yet, my colleague came back to work and managed to keep it together.

That’s strength.
