Taking the musical baton…

Mr. Sun says I’m a cool chick, so the pressure’s on now! My musical taste is somewhat schizophrenic.

Total volume of music files on my computer: 2.18 GB, and slowly growing as I import my CD library and explore my growing addiction to iTunes.

The last CD I bought was: The soundtrack to “Bend It Like Beckham,” because that Indian syntho-pop has haunted me since I saw the movie.

Song playing right now: “Bohemian Rhapsody,” by Queen. Gleeful, ridiculous and masterful all at the same time. The ethos was perfectly captured in that film classic, “Wayne’s World.”

Five songs I listen to a lot, lately (in no particular order):

“You Don’t Know Me,” by Ray Charles. Once and forever, The Man.

“Lawyers, Guns and Money,” by Warren Zevon. I, like Mr. Sun, am a Zevon fan. While “Excitable Boy” was my favorite track in college, this is the one that really endured as my all-time favorite.

“Someone I Used to Love,” by Jimmy Buffett. One of my favorite tracks from “License to Chill,” with beautiful vocals from Nanci Griffith.

“Friend of the Devil,” by the Grateful Dead. Who doesn’t like to kick back with Jerry Garcia?

“Melissa,” by the Allman Brothers. Despite the fact that it’s been co-opted by a damn cell phone commercial, it’s still one of the most evocative, romantic pieces of Southern rock ever created.

(I told you it was schizophrenic.)

Five people to whom I’m passing the baton:

Herb, Lex, Sally, Jeff, and John.
