I was introduced to Johnetta Cole by Yvonne Johnson. The meeting was brief, but during the 30 seconds, she shook my hand, looked me in the eyes, and during that WAY too short time, she made me feel as if I was the most important person in the world. She shakes hands with great people, Presidents and celebrities, yet, she made me feel as if I was the GREATEST person she’d ever met. It is truly a gift to be able to do that. I came away believing that if we met again she would remember my name. I’ll bet she knows the name of every custodian that works at Bennett. She is a treasure.
I saw her in person the first time at the Trailblazers in Diversity Awards Dinner back in March, I was impressed and inspired.
It was truly amazing to actually get to talk with her just briefly yesterday.
I interviewed former Commissioner Mike Barber’s brother, Brad, for a class paper. He’s the vice president of information systems at LabCorp.
We both agreed that we enjoyed working “with very intelligent people. If I’m lucky, some of it will rub off,” he said. I really believe that.
I don’t envy AJ for all that he has to go through on his job. But just having the opportunity to talk to people like Johnnetta Cole on at least a semi-regular basis would be awesome.
I always enjoy my brief meetings with Doctor Cole and found her book, Sister President, to be very enlightning. Have no doubt she’s the greatest gift Bennett College ever gave Greensboro.

Sister President is a great human being, and we are so lucky to have her in our town for these years.
