Living single for a couple of days

I had to return from our beach vacation early for an exam, and I left the girls there to have a few more days of fun. So, I took advantage of my after-class freedom and took in the late show of War of the Worlds based on Chewie’s advice.

Actually, I would have seen it at some point anyway. The book is one of my all-time favorites. Now, I need to read it again, sometime after marketing management, that is.

I shook throughout the entire movie, partially because I was cold and partially because it was a creepy thrill ride.

Two things bothered me though: Tom Cruise’s heroics and Tom Cruise’s supposed better observation skills than the 1oth Mountain Division, who provided soldiers for the battle scenes.

I know, it’s a Cruise thing. I’m not opposed to his work. In fact, there are a number of his movies I’d see over and over again. It’s just the non-movie stuff that’s a distraction right now.

But, I’m glad I saw War of the Worlds. I definitely have to find my copy of the book. It’ll be a nice warm-up for the new Harry Potter, which Susan will get to read first anyway.

If I had time to see the movie, I don’t know if I could bear to. I remember listening to Halloween-nihgt broadcasts of the radio play growing up. (The was a recording of the original broadcast, since I’m not even close to THAT old.) But it was very cool (and very creepy) to listen to…I don’t know if any movie could compare.

You know, I’d love to hear the old original broadcasts. Wouldn’t they be cool as a podcast?

There’s at least one podcast out there that’s doing old radio serial shows. Wow!

How cool would it be to do something like that?
