We now have two 3-year-olds

Today marks the third anniversary of Ramblin’ Prose. Somehow, I’ve missed the first and second. Oh, well.

Three is a magic number, though. And there’s been a lot of change since my first post, including the addition of my lovely wife, who I’m encouraging to write more. Unfortunately right now, the Harry Potter series is her first priority .

I’ve written in fits and starts and covered many topics. Lately, I’ve had a lot of interest looking into the digital lifestyles of people — how technology is changing the way we live and work. I’ve even pitched it as a column idea. I just can’t seem to muster enough time and energy to do the research and write the darn things.

Maybe one day.

I did write one thing for the paper in the past week. I don’t know when it’s going to run, though. I’ll have to ask Susan.

I like reading your blog. I have no idea how anyone finds time to write, and I really enjoy writing. How about pod-casting? That’s quite an amazing phenomenon. One of my friends, who is gay, in a long term relationship and raising a daughter, is doing one with another of his friend is San Francisco. They call it “daddyquakes”. Anyway, I think the pod-casting phenomenon is worth watching..

    Writing is us! ‘ :D

Susan has the mad writing skills. My writing has always been way too formal (the former aspiring computer engineer). But blogging, for me, is me keeping a journal that I wouldn’t otherwise do and sharing with whoever wants to read.

I agonize too much over the grammar (the copy editor in me), but sharing the wacky stuff or serious stuff I find around me or on the Web is fun, and I can do it whenever or wherever.

The big benefit in the past year has been the growing community of bloggers here that I’ve had the opportunity to meet either on the Web or in person through meetups. It has been amazing. There are smart, funny and talented people around here that I would never have had a chance to meet otherwise.

Podcasting is a different animal. It’s quite a lot of work. Luckily, it’s part of my job right now, something I made part of my job. I’m contemplating doing one at home. I just need to find a focus. The one subject Susan and I talked about has too many implications for our family, so we may not go that route.

I’m not much for on-air talent, but I’ve got lots of ideas about shows, and I’m learning a lot about production.

The thing that I love about podcasting is the portability. I listen to podcasts in my car, when I exercise and when I cut the grass. It’s better than most of what’s on the radio, except for the NPR shows I love. And some of them are moving to podcasts!
