I’ll admit to being a dumb redneck whiteboy who never once read a copy of Jet or Ebony, but after having heard the story about John Johnson on NPR today I have to say he was the kind of man I would like to work for.
Neither magazine was ever the best prose I’ve ever read, but each did have positive images of African Americans. They started to get a little too star-studded for me after awhile.
But it never hurt that Jet had a bathing-suit clad girl in each issue. Always a highlight.
