One of the kids’ favorite books, and ours too, is “How I Became a Pirate.” In it, a little boy, Jeremy Jacob, is whisked away from boredom on the beach with his family to live the life of a pirate for a day, just as long as he made it back for soccer practice.

This isn’t Jeremy. It’s not even Braid Beard, the pirate leader in the book. This is the ship’s first mate, Golden Beard. Well, not really. That WOULD be a good yarn.

This is Lucky dog who leads a charmed life. When he’s not giving little girls belly laughs, he’s creating fear off the coast of N.C. like his hero, Black Beard.

We love Lucky and I hope you do, too.

My Golden (Millie) Erik and I just spent some time on the Outer Banks renewing our pirate bonds. I have the tee shirt, Erik has the kite and Millie is still eyeing the skull and cross bones. Must be a wonderful book.

Eddie, go buy it, buddy. It makes you feel good on so many levels. It looks like it’s for kids, but we all love it.
