You know it’s been a good first day back to school for your kid when you’re greeted with a huge smile and a thumb’s up.
We visited school on Tuesday for the open house and met Abby’s teacher. Two great signs: She’s a nine-year vet and her kid has peanut allergies, too, which means she’ll be really diligent where Abby’s concerned. I found out there was another bonus tonight: Abby’s teacher is related to a daycare worker who took care of Camille when she was a baby.
Now I know we’ve been in this town for a long time.
Because her name’s first alphabetically, she got to be the first kid to bring in snack for the class. “We” chose the low fat Fig Newtons, and they’ll be munching on them tomorrow.
The room has a great view of the front natural area, a very serene scene. She’s got a number of her old classmates in her room. One new kid in school, although not in her class, has been a friend since preschool. Abby seems to have a lot more confidence in herself, too. She’s also excited about being back at her afterschool program.
It’s shaping up to be a great year.

Glad to hear the good news! Abby is such a good kid!!
It’s great to hear that Abby’s school year has gotten off to such a great start.
As a teacher, you’re just as anxious to find out what your students are like.
As a class, our school’s eighth-graders earned a worse reputation as sixth and seventh graders than previous classes that have come through our school recently.
But the first impression they’ve made the first two days of eighth grade has been really positive.
It may be a sign that many have matured and possibly out-grown some bad habits of the past.
I really enjoyed my first two days with our students.
It’s great to hear that a student’s self-confidence has grown and that she is excited, as you’ve mentioned has been the case for Abby.
Parents play an vital role in the development of some of those qualities.
And the attitude and approach of teachers and other students can contribute greatly to the environmental effects felt by individual students, such as Abby.
I hope she has a great year!
