Well, not exactly. My parents called the other night. They’ve decided not to come to GSO for their granddaughter’s 4th birthday.
The reason: They can’t be sure they’d be able to get gas to return home.
In a couple of words: That sucks.
We haven’t been back to Delaware in more than a year. They haven’t been down here in awhile either. And things don’t look like they’re going to get any better any time soon.
I made my weekly pilgrimage to Costco today to, what else, buy gas. At first, I was excited to see no one in line. Then I noticed no one was in line because there were orange cones blocking the lines.
When I went inside, there were signs posted that they had no gas — during Labor Day weekend.
Gas didn’t really ruin my life. But it’s making it a whole lot more difficult to enjoy it. The word on the street is this too shall pass. But whenever I see people with huge SUVs, whose idea of off-road thrill-seeking is pulling into a McDonald’s for a kid’s meal, I want to help switch them to biodiesel and crap in their tanks.
That would be pretty satisfying.

Had a similar family get-together crippled by the gas situation. It will seem so silly 5 years from now, but what can you do?
The biodiesel idea – well, I’ll let that stand on its own. It’s got legs.
Hey Herb,
I feel your frustration. I,too was turned away at Costco this weekend. I didn’t like the alternative gas prices! Sorry your folks can’t come. That is a major bummer!
Man do i know what you mean, I almost didn’t come home to Durham from Wilmington b/c I was worried about the gas. One of my friends had plans to go home to Virginia and didn’t go for that same reason. It’s crazy!!!
