Both our girls suffer from eczema and each has used Elidel one time or another since they were very young.
The FDA has approved changing the labeling on these topical ointments
with a boxed warning about a possible risk of cancer.
The other drug that will get the new labeling is Protopic.
Instances of cancer are rare, but as parents any chance is of concern.
Right now, we use a generic form of Cutivate, which is stronger than Elidel and seems to do a much better job controlling their eczema. We apply it when they have outbreaks (behind the knees, around the elbows) until the symptoms subside and then we stop.
Another thing to think about.
Update: I guess I was wrong. I find a tiny bit of Protopic in our house today (Jan. 22), so I guess we have used it.

Did they put these drugs on the market before they finished testing…or did they know about the cancer possibility and fail to warn people??
Either way is unacceptable. Although, I’m beginning to believe everything causes cancer.
