    Let’s examine.

“We have no other agenda but the one of helping bloggers tell everyone else what this media revolution is all about.”

“We have estimated that an amount ranging between $50,000 and $100,000 will be required to produce a high-quality final release with enough clout to make it outside the blogosphere.”

“We will be flying out to interview, face-to-face, the top twenty “stars” that bloggers will elect themselves. With a little help from contributing bloggers who will support this project financially with a small donation we will engage face to face the most vocal, opinionated and visionary among bloggers to share with the rest of the world what Blogs are all about and why we should pay attention to them.”

“To all of those who will support us with a support donation of $15 or more, we will offer full access to all the source footage that will become gradually available to us.”

“Each supporting contributor will have therefore the possibility of re-editing completely the whole footage in any desired way and to post back to us a new version of the movie for public review and promotion.”

Wow — I get to do the production work for them for FREE! And then, for another $15.00, I can enjoy the privilege of doing all the editing work for them! Meanwhile, they take $100 grand from corporate sucker – uh, sponsors – and travel around the world doing interviews. They get to do the film they wanted to do, but they’ve figured out how to get ME to cover the production costs and most of the labor.

Genius. Open Source means a lot of ballsy entrepreneurs will never have to work again. The rest of us shouldn’t let our passion for the topic blind us into becoming a legion of beeyatches.

Huh? I’m not sure I interpreted it the same way. I do find it strange that they’re doing “video” of bloggers. I’d do a book using blog posts and do one of those book-to-order deals.

I’m not sure if it’s any different than collecting donations to cover the cost of, say, walking the Appalachian Trail or the whole of the U.S. as some others have done.

But buried in all that B.S. are some interesting ideas. And the way you can post video is pretty interesting.

I don’t think you have to pay to play. The $15 is if you want to take a stab at editing if you want. I think they’re going to post all the clips, but the money is to do a movie to distribute. And they say (take that wit a grain of salt) that any proceeds above production costs will be donated.

Herb, you are more gracious and kind-spirited than I. I don’t doubt that they will do what they say, and that the result could actually be quite cool. I just know that when someone states “We have no other agenda but the one of helping…”, the truth is exactly the opposite. Humans just don’t work like that.

As I said, it’s genius, and in the American entrepreneurial spirit, I suppose I should applaud it. But “Open Source” will be roundly abused by those lacking in community spirit, but fond of their own ends. This smacks of that.
