I really have only watched this thing a few times in my life — true story. But I have to say that there have been a few creative ploys — some bordering on brilliance — that have kept me watching this one. Most have only a passing connection to the game itself.
Best ads so far:
The Clydesdale pony nearly made me cry. OK, I’m a sucker, I can admit it.
The Fabio one made me scream. Out loud. Ordinarily, an ad with Fabio would have just made me puke.
The “Desperate Housewives” ad with the various famous men talking about which wife is their favorite, ending with Hugh Hefner (surrounded by blondes) saying that he likes Edie…”I don’t know why.”
The Hummer one was just plain disturbing.
The halftime show:
I missed most of it, since we were putting the kids to bed, but finished up in time to see geriatric Jagger sink, “Satisfaction,” (iTunes link) which will no doubt end up as background music on the next generation of Viagra commercials. Was heartened to see people aging even worse than myself.
The action:
I’m liking the shaggy Samoan. He’s sexy, he’s spiritual, and he reminds me of a very old Doonesbury storyline.
But the truth is, they had me at Dr. Seuss.

I must be the only person on the planet that liked Mick Jagger last night. Maybe its just that I feel a kinship with the aging who don’t want to go quietly … I say ROCK ON.. it beats the heck out a rocking in a chair!!
Have to totally agree with you about the Hummer.. in my world everything about the Hummer is disturbing – this just validated WHY
.
The Ameriquest ones though cracked me up!
The best part though, was watching the second half on Darren’s new 60″ HDTV… even paint peeling looks interesting on that thing. A little scary when you think about it – but it was superbowl heaven.
Mr. Wonderful’s comment during the Stones was, “That boy’s gonna break a hip one of these days.”
I LOVED the Bud/horse commercial, too, but I think my favorite was the FedEx cavemen.
The one that made me laugh out loud was the Verizon phone-music-for-every-occasion Benny Hill homage.
I too was a huge fan of the Ameriquest commercials, but let us not forget the Budwieser commercial with the streaking lamb, i was on the floor. And yes, the Hummer commercial was HIGHLY disturbing, I mean…
eeewww…..what the crap?? Mom, you know I with you, I LOVED Mick. So he’s old, all the more reason to give him props for rockin out!!! I mean, he’s old eough to be my grandfather and I would have been out of breath with a cramp in my side after that routine.
Don’t get me wrong — I still love Mick. The Stones are heavily represented on my favorite iPod mix. But watching those guys is getting to be like the video of Dorian Gray. It’s just scary.
