Rocketboom bid

Rocketboom, the vblog, vidcast, vidpodcast (whatever), is nearing the end of its eBay auction to sell advertising on the show. With only about three hours left at the time of this post, the current high bid is $30,900. AND THE RESERVE HASN’T BEEN MET.

I wonder what they’re asking for…

Word has it that Amanda Congdon reaches about 130,000 people per day, a few I know in the Triad.

I like this idea. The auction, that is.

I’m not a big fan of Rocketboom, but you can’t deny its success. The fact that it can attract a bid of 30 grand for five, 15-second commercials is amazing. The other amazing thing is, the show’s producers would create the commercials and own the rights to the them, too.

Smart thinking.

Hopefully, the reserve will be met and we’ll be able to check out what they’ve done in March.

The only thing I wonder about is why they’re not bidding out more weeks. Is this just an experiment?

Update: Reserve met. Winning bid $40,000 for a week’s worth of commercials on a 3-minute vidcast. Capitalism at its best.
