I’m in a pure twitch right now from the photos taken by an old friend, Game McGimsey, a geologist with the Alaska Volcano Observatory. The Augustine Volcano has become increasingly active over the last year, and was upgraded to code Orange in February.
Game is one of the lucky folks who gets to fly over and study the activity, and his latest photos are awesome! AVO has an amazing website, chock full of photos, reports, webcams, even geothermal videos. There’s even instructions on how to collect ash samples. Like I would actually give it up if I found some. Just the thought of it is enough to make my geeky little heart go pitter-patter.
I sometimes think that this is what I was really made for — dealing with the elemental forces of nature. Of course, I do have Camille and Abby, so I’m still doing it. We even get that sulphur smell sometimes.
