Hooter

Speaking of owls , we got our first look at our own barred owl Saturday evening. We were sitting on the porch after dinner and he perched on a low branch in the back yard for a little less than a minute before flying off for a quick snack, we can only guess.

Unfortunately, the girls had already gone inside and missed this beautful bird.

It’s been the source of some talk among our neighbors who, along with us, have heard it in the early morning, evening and at night for quite some time.

Susan had the first close encounter a few weeks ago when she went out in the early morning and heard it and thought that she had seen it swoop past.

I’m glad we finally got to see our little friend.

Actually, I scared off his breakfast. I didn’t know he was there until I saw something small (a mouse, I think) scurry out of my path, then heard a very loud HOOOO behind me. I turned and saw the very distinctive shape of an owl perched on a branch of the tree by the driveway. I spoke to him, but he didn’t have anything more to say.
