I like motorcades

I love seeing the flashing lights and the big SUVs and wondering what the dignitary who’s being escorted is doing: Makeup? Hair? Sleep?

It was fun to see through rain-smeared glass this morning Condi Rice’s ‘cade on the way from the airport to the Baptist conference while I was chauffeuring some high school students to 102 Jamz during a workshop outing. The students were a little surprised and impressed that Greensboro warranted such a visit from someone with that kind of juice.

I liked the big cars and pretty flashing lights.

I had a similar experience on a recent trip to New Orleans. Laura Bush was in town to dedicate a new library. No less than 8 huge SUVs were parked on Bourbon Street as Laura had dinner. You could hardly walk past. Guys in suits everywhere, lights flashing and everyone had these cute little ear phones that looked like something out of Star Trek, it was quite a spectacle. Taxes at work…
