We haven’t seen our resident owls as much lately, and we’ve really been too busy to look. But when I went out to get the paper Monday morning, a flock of crows were headed toward the house, making a terrible racket.
I looked up and saw the source of their anger — a young barred owl flying right over my head, close enough for me to count the bars on his chest. It was clearly one of the summer hatchlings, because it was substantially smaller than the adults we saw all summer long. I couldn’t wait to go in and tell the girls.
Here’s hoping those youngsters stay around for good.

How cool!
And our neighbors up the street report a pair of red-tail hawks. Ain’t nature great?
