We started off preparing to have some friends over, but when those plans changed, Abby and I went out for a few stolen moments while Susan did Camille’s hair.
Up first, a trip to see the UNCG women’s softball team. We arrived just in time to see the Spartans score seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to beat the College of Charleston. I watched the softball stadium being built and this is the first time I’ve visited. It was short, but it was quality daddy-daughter time. She’s really a great study.
Next, we parked off Market and walked over to the mini golf course at UNCG and I practiced chipping and she practiced putting. Okay, when your 8-year-old daughter sinks more putts than you, it’s time to hang up the clubs.
While writing this and thinking about her interest in sports today, I’m reminded of watching her during soccer. It makes me laugh, but it warms my heart when I see her play. When she’s running up and down the field, and especially when she’s near the ball, she has probably the biggest smile I ever see on her face. She’s almost giddy out there.
I think to myself sometimes, keep her working hard and she could do something with that enthusiasm for sports later in life. But then I’m kicked back to reality: Why mess with a good thing?
