Add another chapter to the history of Cinco de Mayo: The Day Susan and Herb Lost Their Minds and Had a Sleepover With 10 Little Girls.
It. Wasn’t. So. Bad. We keep repeating that for some reason.
We got started off on the wrong foot when I underestimated the amount of food they’d eat, so I had to go out and get more nuggets from Chick-fil-A. I don’t think Susan will ever forgive me for that lost 30 minutes. But the good news is, I managed to help an old lady who dropped her trash on the floor. When I told her why I had the huge bin of nuggets, she made the Sign of the Cross and spat three times over her left shoulder as she hurried away.
I never imagined how much they’d eat. Not in one sitting, mind you, but during the course of the evening, they got busy.
Then it was on to the girlie-girl part of the evening. If you’ve never been to a Jesse McCartney concert, just clink the link and look at the picture and you’ll get the picture.
There was a half-hearted attempt by a few to paint nails that fizzled. We had plans to do some crafts and then let them watch a movie, the theme of the evening being movie premiere night. But once they all arrived, it turned into a free-for-all. There was lots of running. Lots of screaming. Lots of laughing. Lots of eating and drinking. There was a point where they were sharing an undergarment and taking turns modeling. What surprised me the most was they stopped a movie to watch, wait for it, America’s Funniest Home Videos.
Even little Camille hung tough with the big girls. Of course, she’s got a set of lungs on her that, during the evening, eclipsed all eight of the others.
They finally conked out about 12:30. Dead, blessed silence.
Susan and I are on our second movie of the night: Almost Famous. Heck of a soundtrack, BTW.
We survived the night.
Tomorrow’s another day, though.

Hold me closer, tiny dancer….classic flick
I had two daughters, who usually had two friends each staying over on Friday or Saturday night. At least I knew where MY kids were. Yes, it a hectic life, but when they are gone you will have all these memories! What fun they are.
Welcome, FabGrandma!
Growing up, I rarely had friends stay over. And as an only child, that made for some very lonely nights.
But, it’s my pleasure to make it possible for our kids to have that kind of fun!
