Our children have developed distinct and separate newspaper reading habits. In these days of media competition and declining newspaper use — especially among the young — the fact that they have a newspaper habit at all is astounding.
I don’t really think it’s because we work there, but because they see us read it every morning. So now, every morning at breakfast, they want part of the paper, too.
Abby wants the Life section (yeah!). She’s attracted to the big images and art we often have there, but her next stop is inside — the comics.
Camille wants the weather page. She gives us the weather report every morning, including the 5-day outlook, with attitude. Sunny? She has a smile on her face and excitement in her voice. Cloudy? She has boo-boo lip and the sad voice. Thunderstorms? Abject terror! Everybody out of the pool!
Yes, we’ve got quite the little performer on our hands.
Herb’s even thinking of doing video to share on the blog.
So even this unquestionably good thing, a newspaper habit, may produce my worst nightmare — My Daughter, the TV meteorologist.
