I’m impressed that we’re not the only people who are paying attention to the escalating arms race that is afterschool activities.
Abby’s been participating in karate for several years and we just got Camille started last year. But with tutoring, soccer, and Girl Scouts, enough was enough. Life is much saner for all of us and we get more family time together.
Dropping karate, though, leaves Camille without an activity. We’re torn between dance and gymnastics. She’s equally good at both as she demonstrated a cartwheel dance move the other night.
But do we really want to add more stress? I mean with Susan in school, Abby’s activities and work piling up, both on the job and at home, it’s enough to make us want to stay in bed all day and not face the world.
And there might be quite a bit more stress coming soon…

Sensei Terruuki Okazaki says, “Karate is like hot
water. Must continualy apply heat.”
I say,”I like children but can’t finish a whole one.”
