Pippin the marvelous

Pippin with girls-1Okay, so we’ve probably broken every rule we read about not introducing a new puppy to too many people, but Pippin handled it with aplomb.

After we picked him up this morning, we thought he was doing fine in the van on the way home. But he began to whimper and cry just a little. We thought he was just nervous about being in a crate and on the move, but it turns out he had to go No. 2. Just a little, though.

Pippin with girls-2We got him home and spent several hours with him in the kitchen letting him get used to his new surroundings. We ate lunch and then took him out for a short walk where folks in the neighborhood love to walk their dogs.

He’s not leash trained yet, but he went No. 1 four times on the walk! We heaped lavish praise on him and he seemed to be nonplussed about it like,”Dude, I’ve got it covered!”

He met several larger dogs on the way, including a Bishon, a Cairn, a Boxer-Lab mix, another larger Terrier mix and performed like a champ. (Note: We’re going to have to get used to the way dogs greet each other. Glad people don’t do that!)

We met several people and Pippin was great. He even tinkled one last time in our yard when we got home and met with our neighbors for good measure. The kids are still all over him, but the novelty will wear off soon.

Pippin falls asleepThis afternoon, Susan decided to do Camille’s hair. We opened up one more room to Pip, the den, and he explored until everyone settled down on the couch. He picked his spot and fell fast asleep.

Day 1 so far: A+.

Night, however, is to come.

Update: Here’s a video from earlier today:

Thanks! He’s been an unbelievably good puppy today. He’s only had one accident in the house so far. And he’s going tinkle on the leash which we thought might be tough since he’s not leash broken yet.

    He’s a very happy guy.

He likes marking - when they smell another dog’s “#1,” they put a little there. You shoulda stopped by or rang the doorbell (or just hollered). We’d love to meet the little guy.

Did you decide on a diet for him yet?

We’re doing the raw diet, as recommended by his breeder. It’s what he’s been raised on so far, and he loves it.

    Isn’t he the cutest thing?

How cute and sweetis he!!! I know the kids are crazy for him!! I am sure he will be just as spoiled with love as our dog (he’s not even mine and I adore him!!) I wish I could have one of my own, but I’m ok with being an auntie right now

    Jane,

He’s a Lakeland Terrier. He’s a really fast learner, too.

We’re crate training him. The first night he was home I slept next to him in a sleeping bag on the floor in our room. After that, he’s still in his crate, but he’s not whimpering anymore.

    He’s a good boy. So far. :-)
