I see dog people. Lot’s of ‘em. They’re everywhere.
I guess before having a dog we never really paid that much attention. Now, we’re looking for them. It’s a weird feeling, like buying a new car and looking all over for people with the same make and model.
A couple of observations from today:
- We took Pip to get his rabies shot. While there, we ran into one of my co-workers who has a bulldog. We also got to see one of the largest breeds I’ve every seen – an Irish wolfhound. I could have ridden that thing to see my parents in Delaware. On a sad note, one man brought in a neighbors dog who had gotten loose and was running around the neighborhood. The receptionists – thankfully the dog was a client of that particular vet – made several calls to the owners, mostly leaving messages.
- While at the vet’s, I watched in horror as the doctor checked to see if Pip’s testicles had dropped. Must be a guy thing, but to watch the doc’s hand up there made me wince and Pip yelp. I resisted the urge to grab my package in sympathy. The girls were in the room.
- While I was at a board meeting most of the day, Susan and the girls canvassed the neighborhood selling Girl Scout cookies. At one stop, they got a nice surprise. The family had a pair of Lakelands! Susan can fill in the details of the visit, but we’re surprised that in our neighborhood there are other Lakelands since the breed isn’t as common as others. At 8 and 4 years old, they weren’t that much larger than Pip. That’s a good thing.
- Dogs and people need to be trained. It was easier for me to take care of a couple of babies. It takes years for them to stand on their own. At four months, Pippin has a mind of his own and he’s getting a ‘tude and libido to boot.
Update: Here’s a better pic of the Irish wolfhound giving you some perspective of its scale to man. Yes, the Queen’s a little woman, but still…
