Sun buying “My”SQL

PC World - Business Center: MySQL: Sun’s Billion-Dollar Baby
Sun put its money where its mouth is Wednesday, with the announcement that it would buy open source database vendor MySQL for a whopping $1 billion.

If the price tag set tongues wagging, however, it was no more tantalizing than the question that immediately sprung to the minds of IT managers everywhere: Now that Sun owns MySQL, what on earth does it plan to do with it?

This technically has little to do with the family except that the database that keeps things straight for this blog and many other WordPress installations is MySQL. I’ve used it for years. I have a local install on a couple of computers. I still have about a thimble full of knowledge of it, but what I do know, I like. I’ve heard that PostgreSQL is much more robust open-source solution, but not being a database admin (or wanting to be one), I’m happy with MySQL

Here’s hoping it remains free and easy.
