Our dog-gone weekend

Abby’s science project is due next week. She’s done her research and we finished up the testing today.

We were shooting for 50-100 dogs, but that turned into a stretch goal. We ended up with more than 20, though. We spent our last few hours of field work at the Greensboro Pet Spa & Resort where our friend Meg Wood and her son Patrick helped by providing her show dogs and pets as Guinea pigs.

The atmosphere was a lot different than the dog park. The dogs came to us one at a time, as opposed to several roaming a pen at once. But, they were just as distracted individual with the adults as having the dogs at the dog park were with each other.

We’ll have to interpret the results and make some assumptions. The bottom line is, for a girl who loves all animals as much as Abby does, this experiment was a winner.

I’ll post her conclusions Wednesday or Thursday – after she turns in her assignment – with a slide show of the dogs.

We also have more dog stuff going on tomorrow. My cousin, who moved to the area from Southern California just before Thanksgiving, has grown very fond of Pippin (the feeling is mutual) and is considering a dog of his own.

As coincidences do happen, the breeder we got Pippin from has a former show dog she’d like to place. The former dog is Pippin’s mother!

We’re off to meet her tomorrow morning.

Shelter! Shelter! Tell your cousin to at least visit the Guilford County Animal Shelter or contact the rescue group for his / her preferred breed. Please. Try it once, at least.

Sue: He’s been there (the benefits of being retired – lots of time). It’s not too far from his house. He hasn’t made a decision yet, but wanted to meet her first.
