My trip home for lunch was an adventure.
Heading down my long street, I had to wait for an old, beat up car to move. It looked like a white Lincoln Town Car. There was what looked like a teen driving, but the strange thing was there was another teen going door to door on the other side of the street.
The scene was strange to say the least, because even before I got to my block, I saw a woman talking with a police officer and pointing in the direction I was going. Then I saw the car
Not worrying too much about it, I went about my business and took Pippin out for a walk. At the end of our loop around the block, I came across that Town Car again. And a squad car. And an unmarked police car. The cops were frisking one of the men, while the other was sitting on the curb.
The one sitting on the curb nodded to me. I nodded back.
As I turned the corner to head home, another patrol car arrived.
I made lunch then headed back to work.
On the way back, I rode past the curious scene again. I stopped to ask two of the officers if everything was all right. In a surly voice, one said that everything was fine.
Driving past the Town Car, I saw another officer searching the trunk.
There were multiple chain saws.

Oh jeez, just what I wanted to hear. The “Hamilton Forest Chain Saw Debacle.”
Chain saws?! My goodness.
By the way, we have a dog named Pippin also. He’s a toy poodle.

Welcome! There’s a neighbor near us who walks her dog, Merry, a mini Schnauzer.
There’s also a Great Pyrenees in our neighborhood. Too bad his name’s not Dumbledore.

I’m hoping this experience with Greensboro’s finest deters these folks. It is good to know the neighbors are keeping watch.
Maybe the guys in the Town Car were lumberjacks looking for work?
Or maybe the Chainsaw Massacre franchise is expanding north?
Those guys stopped by my house. They wanted to cut down a big branch on one of our Bradford pears that kind of leans toward the house. We may in fact need to have that done, but I’m not going to give the job to someone going door to door.
I intended to call the cops but then got on another call and forgot. Glad someone else did.
