First swim competition under her belt

What’s perfectly awesome about this is that Abby got over her nerves and put in a great performance in the last heat of the girls 11-12 freestyle at her first swim meet – ever.

After waiting five hours to do her thing, she held her own and was just nudged out at the end for second. Her smile after the race was priceless. My chest hurts from being so proud of her.

The Frogs went on to beat the Greensboro Country Club “juggernaut” 828-742. But who cares. There was enough eating and socializing to make this a cool pool party.

Abby’s in the right lane as you look at the video.

Now, it’s on to City Meet.

MJ at the Wawa

Although I was sad to find out that I didn’t get the full video of a guy doing his best Michael Jackson dance moves at the Wawa in Wilmington, Del., I managed to get this snapshot from the seven seconds of video I did get.

I was pretty upset that several cars were blocking the way to the gas pumps, but once I saw why, I wasn’t too upset anymore. You don’t see something like this every day. Or do you?

I have to say he did do a nice job and had the patrons smiling. Apparently, there were other MJ sightings as well.

Dogs letting loose

Pippin and Lucky, a 90-plus-pound Golden Retriever, have get-togethers like this periodically. When they’re together at the beach, they show why boys will be boys.

Though normal for them, it can be quite a pain for us. The good news, they’re both tired when they finally get away from each other.

Sun tea

tea1I think I’ve turned my husband into a Southerner. He has developed a deep love of iced tea, to the point that he became fascinated with the idea of making sun tea.

The only glass pitcher we had with a top, however, was my very old Snoopy orange juice pitcher. He made a perfectly marvelous batch of sun tea with it, and it was so good, he wanted more.

Which, since he’s a man, translated into bigger, the zenith of which, in kitchen gadget land, is the Sur la Table 2-gallon hourglass beverage jar with dispenser ($48 on sale) and metal stand ($13 on sale).

Ah, no.

Not as bad as pickin’ your nose

There are times when you want to crawl under a rock. Like when your then 5-year-old asks a friend of yours to see something personal that really shouldn’t be shared in public.

Now, today wasn’t that bad. But it was uncomfortable. As a parent, I should have learned by now that I’m on kid time, not my time. So when they’re ready to leave, I’d better go.

I didn’t learn my lesson.
